How does the lack of humanity in slavery disrupt domesticity in all races involved?


There are differing opinions as to whether the way Sethe chose to protect her children was right or wrong. Do you think Sethe's decision making and mental stability is impaired by slavery? Or do you think slavery has strengthened Sethe to make good decisions?

Not all ex-slaves who thought they were going to be brought back into slavery killed their children, so why? It is Sethe’s extreme love for her children? Because she couldn’t bear having them live a life of slavery? Or was it a moment of insanity?

We know that Sethe tried to kill her children so they didn't have to go through the horrors of slavery like she did. Many species of animals commit infanticide in order to prevent their runt of the litter from suffering their whole life, do you feel like this a similar situation to Sethe's?
